- Assembly or mapping and quantification
- Annotation and functional profiling
- Taxonomic and pathway analysis
- Clear report, figures, and interpretation call
Omics Project Design & Sequencing Strategy
Best for: Clients planning a project and wanting to avoid weak design, mismatched methods, or wasted sequencing budget.
- Biological question refinement
- Sample strategy and controls
- Library and platform advice
- Sequencing depth recommendations
- Analysis planning and risk review
Scientific Consulting
Best for: Teams needing high-level support without handing over a full project.
- Study and proposal review
- Troubleshooting
- Pipeline and workflow advice
- Technical due diligence
- Methods comparison and strategic support
Selected projects may also include long-read sequencing support and integrated end-to-end workflows where this adds clear value.
How projects work
Every engagement follows the same four phases.
- 01
Scope
Define the question, assess the data, agree the analysis before any work begins.
- 02
Design
Experimental design, sample strategy, and bioinformatics planning to avoid avoidable failures.
- 03
Deliver
Reproducible pipelines with transparent QC. No black boxes. Every decision documented.
- 04
Interpret
Biological interpretation, clear reporting, and conclusions you can act on and defend.
Common questions
- Do I need to have data already to work with Microbiome Design?
- No. Experimental design and sequencing strategy support is available before data is generated. Engaging earlier reduces the risk of generating data that cannot answer the original question.
- What do I receive at the end of a project?
- Reproducible analysis code with version-locked dependencies, annotated output files, QC reports, and a written interpretation summary formatted for use in a paper, report, or internal presentation.
- How long does a project take?
- Two to eight weeks is typical depending on data volume and complexity. Scope and timeline are agreed before work starts. Urgent timelines can be accommodated at a premium.
- Can Microbiome Design re-analyse data that was processed elsewhere?
- Yes. Re-analysis and interpretation of existing datasets is common. The first step is a data audit to assess quality and determine what is feasible given how the data was generated.
- What makes this different from a generic bioinformatics pipeline service?
- Most pipeline services process data. Microbiome Design starts with the biological question and works backwards to the methods. The deliverable is interpretation you can stand behind, not just processed files.
